The settlement of Venarotta is located between the Fluvione and Chiaro river valleys. It was probably founded in around the sixth century by former citizens of Ascoli who built, among other things, a temple dedicated to the goddess Venus, which some say explains the name “ Venarotta”.
In 1237 Venarotta was captured by the armies of Ascoli and lost its freedom.
Currently, Venarotta comprises nine hamlets and five groups of houses, in which the Medieval past is still very evident.
Particularly interesting are the San Francesco convent complex, built in the twelfth century, the sixteenth-century church of San Pietro, and the octagonal church of Madonna del Cardinale, built in the sixteenth century.
