Arquata – Acquasanta – Montegallo – Montemonaco
The land of the Piceno located between the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic coast, has a fascinating landscape, characterized by rolling hills and small villages often dominated by fortresses and castles or protected by city walls in testimony of their history. The fabulous and mysterious beauty of some places has produced legendary tales.
We propose a discovery tour of these places, their culture, and their traditions.
Arquata del Tronto, located between the two National Parks, the “Sibillini Mountains” Park and the “Monti della Laga” Park, is dominated by a medieval Fortress which, in the XV century, hosted Queen Giovanna of Angiò.
Going towards Acquasanta Terme, famous SPA and site of quarries of travertine, it is possible to admire Castel di Luco, a fairytale fortress which lies on the top of a rocky outcrop of travertine.
Reaching Montegallo, you can see the remains of the ancient Castle of Santa Maria in Gallo, built in the seventh century by Mark Gallo, an envoy of Charlemagne.
The last village to visit is Montemonaco, where we find the remains of the Castle built as a fortification system to defend the settlement inhabited, in the twelfth century.
Montemonaco is also known for Sybil, a legendary and mysterious sorceress who lived in the cave on the mountain of the same name, a destination for excursions.
