The international research camps offer cultural research opportunities within the Parco Archeologico Naturalistico di Cupra Marittima.They have been running for some time now and use experimental archaeological education to offer innovative, stimulating and exciting experiences both for school-age children, and for those wanting an interesting, alternative style of holiday.
The Idrea cooperative operates in the field of cultural services and has been working with other partners for over a decade to organize an experimental archaeological education and geo-exploring pilot project, authorized by the Marche Archaeology Department and sponsored by the Cupra Marittima municipal council. The project also includes on-site tourist accommodation for young people and adults.
This experience has been made possible thanks to the long-standing partnership with the French municipalities of Paris, Massy, Noisy, Issy Les Moulinaux and Alfortville (supported in France by the Association Stratégies Européennes, which has been promoting Piceno tourism for forty years in Paris) and, as regards the environmental side of things, by the partnership with the provincial network of the CEA Labter CE “Ambiente Naturale Piceno” (environmental education centres).
As part of these schemes, people have the opportunity to play an active role in actual research being carried out by officials or professionals working for the overseeing agencies.Participants therefore have the opportunity to learn and discuss topics with real experts in the sector.There is no need to be a historian, archaeologist, geologist or botanist to take part in the experimental workshops. You simply need to be open-minded, enquiring and interested in learning.The experience also includes hands-on workshops for using a pottery wheel, sculpting, making mosaic, as well as orienteering in the Apennine woods.
All the experimental archaeological education schemes run in Italy by the Idrea team, a specialist firm accredited by the Marche Department of Archaeology of Ancona and by the Marche regional council for professional training, are authorized and conducted in partnership with departments, foundations, universities, public agencies, and Italian and French business consortia.
