Things began with the father Serafino, followed by son Vincenzo, leading to the establishment of the current winery in 1974 by grandson Domenico.
In 1988 the company began marketing its bottled wines, well aware of the potential of their vineyards and vines, and an increasingly demanding market.
Simone, the fourth generation of the Capecci family, continues to promote traditional Piceno wines with great interest and enthusiasm.
The Azienda San Savino is always up-to-date with the latest research and innovations in order to make the most of several respected traditional native varieties:Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Pecorino, and Passerina.
The estate is located in geographical area of the Rosso Piceno Superiore, overlooking the Adriatic, eight kilometres from the sea, between the River Tronto and the River Tesino. It is well-aspected on sunny slopes interspersed with woods, olive groves and steep gullies, shielded by the Apennines to the west.
The Capecci family has 35 hectares under vine, of which around 70% are for red and the rest for white grapes.
The Azienda Capecci has selected names and symbols from the ancient Piceno civilization for its wines, emphasizing the typical nature of the products and their deep-rooted links with the local area (it is no coincidence that the estate is located in an area known as the Crinale dei Piceni). The Piceno people were great farmers and warriors. Their olives, apples and wine were appreciated throughout antiquity, right up to the present day. Roman historians recorded that they taught the Romans how to leaven bread and that they even had a flourishing trade of agricultural produce with the Gauls and Germanic populations. The winery has named its selected fine wines after this dynamic, vital farming civilization.
