Mushrooms and especially truffles are the most valuable and sought-after produce of the mountains, , playing a vital role in the culinary traditions of Force, Roccafluvione, Montegallo and Montemonaco.
Truffles in all their varieties are harvested all year round in the Piceno area, both in hill country and in the mountainous areas. The most desirable and expensive variety, harvested in autumn, is the white truffle. The black truffle comes into season in winter, whereas a variety known as “brumale” may be found in hilly areas between winter and spring. Tuber aestivum is thesummer variety.
The summer variety lends its name to another themed event, “Non chiamatelo scorzone” , which will take place in the charming little mountain hamlet of Force between 6 and 10 August 2014. Don’t miss it!
