Cupra Marittima offers an interesting and varied selection of museum collections, ranging from natural history to history and archaeology.
The Museo Malacologico del Piceno in Cupra Marittima is just a short distance from the sea, on the SS16 Adriatica main road. Its exhibition comprises seven hundred thousand shells, along with an interesting ethnographic section featuring shells from all over the world that have been processed in different ways.
The Area Archeologica del Ninfeo Romano is situated three kilometres outside the town centre and extends over a total area of 0.32 km2. It is home to the remains of a Roman settlement, a forum with a temple devoted to Venus, a villa with nymphaeum and a bath house with late Imperial mosaics.
The local Museo Archeologico, situated in the historic mediaeval village of Marano, in Palazzo Cipoletti, an 18th-century fortified house, displays the archaeological finds uncovered in this area over recent decades. The museum is divided into three sections:prehistoric, Picenes and Roman.
